Sail down the River Erdre, a shrine for the local wildlife, where nature prevails. You will sail past “châteaux”, riverside mansions called “Folies Nantaises”, small harbors and larger bodies of water in a pristine natural environment.

Experience boating as it was when river sailing was one of Nantes’ popular pastimes.

Opening of the 2024 season on Saturday, April 6th.

Our boat hire base is in Sucé-sur-Erdre, quai de Bliesransbach. The town was already a “leisure cruising” center in the early 20th century.

How to get there ?
By car : About 25 minutes from Nantes city center.
By public transportation : Take the tram-train from the main railway station (SNCF) in Nantes and get off at the Sucé sur Erdre stop (35 minutes) then walk to the port (a 7 minute-walk).
Cycling : About 50 minutes from Nantes city center.

Lunch on the banks of the River Erdre

Stop for lunch in one of the restaurants on the harbor at Sucé-sur-Erdre. If you are out for the day, stop in one of the restaurants along the docks around Île de Versailles, or in the BM restaurant in Nort-sur-Erdre, 14 place du bassin, depending on your trip.

The route

Discover the Erdre River by boat with Ruban Vert!

Starting from Sucé-sur-Erdre, you can either sail down river towards Nantes and admire all the castles on the way ; or sail up river towards Mazerolles’ plain and Nort-sur-Erdre.

 

Sail back to our Île de Versailles boat hire base in Nantes

This will take a little over 4 hours in all, depending on the type of boat, and you can then admire all the sites mentioned below:

  • Two châteaux, Nay and la Couronnerie, face each other across the river as you carry on towards Sucé-sur-Erdre.
  • Our pontoon opposite the château de la Gascherie is a good place to moor and take a few photos.
  • Further along, on the left, you can see a former estate, which is now divided between the parc de la Chantrerie and the Nantes Veterinary College.
  • Admire the château de la Desnerie, in La Chapelle-sur-Erdre.
  • After sailing under the Jonelière and Beaujoire bridges, you will see the château de l’Eraudière on your left.
  • Pass the Tortière bridge et reach our Nantes-Île de Versailles boat hire base, in Nantes.

 

Sail to our Nort-sur-Erdre boat hire base

You can choose to explore the plaine de Mazerolles. This is part of the Erdre marshes, the ideal place for nature lovers who want to spot migrating bird species and a wealth of unique flora. You will see:

  • The château de Jaille on your left.
  • Explore the Mazerolles’ plain. Classified Natura 2000 zone, the site is an oasis of greenery between plain and marsh, a paradise for birds since more than 140 species of birds and rare plants are protected there.
  • Stop off at the La Gamotrie pontoon, then go up to the Plaine de la Poupinière, where the Quiheix lock marks the entrance to the Nantes to Brest Canal.
  • Along your navigation before reaching the port of Nort-sur-Erdre, admire the château of Pont-Hus on your right and the château of Port-Mulon.

Our boats

Our Sucé-sur-Erdre boat hire base has 5 boat models to meet your requirements. We have a fleet of “mousses”, 2 to 5 passenger boats (“le Ruban” and “l’As”) (max. speed 5 Km/h), and the fleet of “capitaines”, 6 to 8 passenger boats (“le Scoop”, “le Set” and “le Most”), (max. speed 8 Km/h). In total, 18 license-free boats are available to explore “France’s most beautiful river” to use the words of King Francis 1st.

Thanks to our silent electric boats, you can see the birds, ducks, herons, moor-hens and many other species of bird life at very close range. Enjoy a unique experience with friends or family as you glide through a variety of landscapes and enjoy the peace and quiet of the river with our silent, electric boats.
