Before embarking on your boat trip on the Sèvre, explore the Chaussée des Moines site.
A privileged place for walks and relaxation for local residents, this area is steeped in history. Established around the year 1000 by monks, this dam, named “la Chaussée,” connects the Chêne district to the lower part of the town of Vertou. Its utility was then manifold: to allow passage between the two points of interest in the town, to create a navigable zone upstream, and to install a mill to provide flour for the monks. The lock built at that time is still active today and notably allowed the passage of a route connecting Nantes.
The two adjacent parks: the Parc de la Sèvre and the Parc du Loiry are perfect for walking and picnicking in nature. Food enthusiasts will be delighted by the restaurants near the lock. Art lovers, meanwhile, can enjoy the Moulin Gautron gallery on the other side of the Chaussée. For the more athletic and adventurous, do not hesitate to climb the heights behind the buildings housing the gallery.
A breathtaking view of the entire site awaits you!

Begin your boat trip from our Vertou base by appreciating the beauty of the Chaussée des Moines site. Then, pass under the bridge and head upriver to discover the essential sites along the Sèvre:
• After navigating for a few minutes, you will see on one side the Vertou racecourse, which hosts several horse races and equestrian events each year at the end of summer.
• On the other side, the Château de la Frémoire overlooks the river. A seigneury dating from the 16th century, it was destroyed during the revolution then restored in 1860. Since 1989, it has housed the premises of the wine industry.
• Further north, discover a timeless district: Portillon. Fishermen and nature lovers regularly frequent its banks.
• Upon reaching the Maine junction, discover the Château de Coing to starboard. A historic 15th-century wine estate with a complex of “Clisson-style” buildings.
• To port, la Cantrie and la Haie-Fouassière await you. A famous commune in the vineyard, it was formerly called Montauban de Bretagne and has only borne the name Haie-Fouassière since 1672. A name inherited from the local specialty: the fouace.
